Interesting Saturday 9/1 slate to officially kick off week 1 of the college football season. Got a lot of cupcake matchups on the schedule, making it difficult to judge what the top players will do before they are likely pulled from the game. One strategy is to just roll with them and hope they get to 4+ TDs before the game is wrapped up. The other strategy is to roll with more affordable QBs, hope they match the production, and the extra salary might help you roster better players at RB/QB/WR.
I’ve noticed that with DraftKings not offering College Football in all states – the games don’t fill up as well as they did a few years ago. That’s made it tough to get 100+ contests going – unless you simply want to play against opponents that really know what they are doing. It’s possible that with the regular season NFL starting soon – we’ll get more casual players filling up the games, which would be ideal since you’ve got to mix up your lineups for best results in the GPPs.
Mississippi @ Texas Tech (-2.5) 67 o/u

Washington @ Auburn (-2.5) 48.5 o/u
Austin Peay State @ Georgia No Line
West Virginia (-9.5) @ Tennessee
Washington State (-1) @ Wyoming 45 o/u
Northern Illinois @ Iowa (-13) 47.5 o/u

UNLV @ USC (-26) 63.5 o/u
DREW LOCK (MISS) $9,500
Cupcake matchup and slightly better price than some of the bigger name school QB’s. He does have a track record of lighting up poor teams and has 5+ TD upside. Just hope the head coach lets him go off – possibly letting him pad his stats for off-season awards.
JORDAN TA’AMU (OMISS) $9,900
Got his ranked ahead of some guys – simply because his salary will allow more flexibility at other positions. Faces off against a Texas Tech team who’s pass defense SUCKED in 2017. Also, TT runs an uptempo scheme meaning this could be one of the few competitive ‘shoot-outs’ on Saturday.
TRACE MCSORLEY (PENN) $9,800
Again, got him ranked a bit higher than some other guys simply because his salary will allow for a bit more flexibility. If you fade Haskins, Murray, etc – you really hope they are held in check (like less than ~30 fantasy points) and McSorley, Ta’amu, Lock can at least match it … which I think is possible, but risky.
DWAYNE HASKINS (OHST) $11,600 #2
Faces off against a real NCAA team, but one that gets abused in the passing game. Got to think OHST will want to put a stomping on this team to get on track following the coaching saga this offseason. However, interim head coach said backup QB TATE MARTELL will get action.
KYLER MURRAY (OKLA) $11,900 #1
Cupcake matchup. Will likely come out of the game in the 4th, but as we’ve seen in previous games – that probably won’t matter too much.
KELLY BRYANT (CLEM) $10,100
Going to have to get his work done early, as this will be a massive blowout. You hope he can break off a big run and get to 3+ TDs before that happens with this salary.
JT DANIELS (USC) $8,700
Freshman, so no idea what to expect. UNLV actually wasn’t bad against the pass last season – but that’s mostly against lower-end NCAA teams. I wouldn’t stream JT Daniels, but at this price I don’t mind taking a gamble on him in a handful of lineups. Certainly if there’s a late-slate on DraftKings – Daniels could be an affordable option that you use more.
ROSS BOWERS (CAL) $7,000
Last season against UNC he had 4 TDs. Cal is one of the few 40+ pass attempt teams on the slate, and at $7k I think there’s some value here if he can repeat his performance from last season.
NATHAN ELLIOT (UNC) $7,600
Good matchup against a Cal team that has trouble stopping people – but has an offense that can keep them in the game. At this price, he’s certainly worth a shot in at least a few lineups.
