Here are the week 3 (early games) for daily college fantasy football on Saturday 9/19 running back selections. Honestly, there’s some value pick here, but there’s lots of mid-high end options that are going to be hard to pass up. If you read my WR Picks, there’s more value at that position so I think you can build some lineups where you have strength at RB and pick up value at RB and possibly QB.
Here are the games I’m selecting from:
Air Force @ Michigan State (-27) 60.5 o/u
Illinois @ North Carolina (-9.5) 64 o/u
Nevada @ Texas A&M (-34) 64.5 o/u
Tulsa @ Oklahoma (-30) 71.5 o/u
UNLV @ Michigan (-34) 49.5 o/u
Northwestern @ Duke (-3.5) 49 o/u
Georgia State @ Oregon (-45.5) 73 o/u
Memphis (-6.5) @ Bowling Green 79 o/u (DK Only)
Temple (-10.5) @ Mass 54.5 o/u
Auburn @ LSU (-6.5) 49.5 o/u
Georgia Tech (-2.5) @ Notre Dame 55 o/u
Nebraska @ Miami (-3.5) 57 o/u (Rain possible)
Northern Illinois @ Ohio State (-34.5) 66.5 o/u
Virginia Tech (-6) @ Purdue 46.5 o/u
Western Kentucky @ Indiana (-1.5) 68 o/u
Cincinnati (-19) @ Miami (OH) 60.5 o/u (FD Only)

Jahad Thomas – Temple
$7,700 FanDuel (good value)
Colorado put up nearly 400 rushing yards week 2 vs Massachusetts!! Thomas had 29 touches week 1 and 28 touches week 2. Expect high usage rates on FD.
Leonard Fournette – LSU
Faces off against Auburn which has given up an average of 199 yards per game and 4.2 yards per carry through 2 weeks. I shied away from Fournette last week because his matchup wasn’t super favorable and he got 3 TDs and 159 rushing yards. This guy is a Heisman trophy type player for sure.
Ezekiel Elliott – Ohio State
$9,900 – DraftKings
$9,500 – FanDuel
The gameplan last week was to give him the ball. Might not get 28 total touches this week, but unless it’s a quick blowout he should get 20+. Upside at these prices would require multiple TDs.
Royce Freeman – Oregon
$10,400 – DraftKings
$8,900 – FanDuel
Super expensive on DK. Looks like coaches are scripting in about 25 touches per game. He had a decent week last week against a stiff Michigan State defense. With the starting QB Adams having a broken finger, it might be that Oregon keeps the ball on the ground a bit more than usual.
Samaje Perine – Oklahoma
My only worry with Perine this week is the game goes similar to week 1 when Oklahoma blew out Akron and Perine only got 11 carries. Other than that, this is a great matchup and Perine can be utilized in all lineups.
Jordan Howard – Indiana
Good matchup at home. Should be no real blowout risk in this one. Indiana will want to control the ball in this game to give their defense a breather against up-tempo WKU. Howard appears to step right into the role of Tevin Coleman (Atlanta Falcons) and I consider him a very good start again this week.
Terrell Newby – Nebraska
Blew up on 28 carries last week for 198 yards and 2 TDs after only 10 carries last week. It appears that coaches plan on a similar heavy workload again this week. One thing I’d do before gametime is a weather check … having it rain actually might benefit Newby, but you just don’t want the game cancelled or anything like that.
Great matchup against UNLV who’s rush defense has given up 5.1 yards per carry through 2 weeks this season. Smith’s salary is fairly low compared to other RBs …. maybe the worry is Michigan will blowout UNLV so quick that Smith doesn’t get much. I don’t think Michigan is high powered enough to run up the score in a hurry, so I think Smith is a good option.
C.J. Prosise – Notre Dame
Clearly the guy in ND now that the QB is hurt. He still provides good value from a salary perspective despite this not being an A-1 type matchup.
Cheap Sleeper RBs
Joe Mixon – Oklahoma
Decent option as a cheap FLEX in GPP’s considering his usage rate should be low and he has the ability to hit home runs anywhere on the field. You hope that Oklahoma takes a huge lead and gets him involved late.
D.J. Knox – Purdue
Last week Furman got 136 rushing yards off VTech, who were ripped up week 1 as well. Knox is the starter, Markell Jones is the #2. Both are fairly cheap. While not high-end type starts – not a terrible option if you need a cheap option at RB.
