So after 1 day of August,

I’m going to highlight an area, to find two candidates to pick if you can’t afford Madison Bumgarner. And we will look at new ranks.

Here’s a cheat sheet relating to picking your pitchers,

These first few teams are below the MLB average for Runs Scored & Batting Average.

LA Dodgers
San Diego
NY Yankees
White Sox
Tampa Bay
NY Mets

What jumps out, is that the Reds, Phillies & White Sox feature, with those 3 having HR Friendly ballparks, it makes it even more attractive to pick the opposing pitcher when they are on the road.

The 5 teams to avoid,

St. Louis

Sure Boston, Texas & Colorado play in HR friendly home ballparks, but I believe the Red Sox would post very similar numbers without the green monster.

Jacob deGrom (NYM) $11,500 VS NY Yankees

ERA of 2.56 against the Yankee’s who average 4.05 Runs a game, in the pitchers paradise of CitiField. However for only another $1,200 or $1,500 and you can play Jose Fernandez or Mad Bum.

Masahiro Tanaka (NYY) $9,700 @ NY Mets

A 3.16 ERA, However it’s a subway series & Tanaka will have the distraction of hitting & the intensity of the rivalry.

Gerrit Cole (PIT) $9,000 @ Atlanta Braves

With a 2.78 ERA, And coming off of a 9 Inning 1 Run game his last start, signs point to a good point return facing probably the league’s worst team.

Yordano Ventura (KC) $7,700 @ TB Rays

A 4.88 ERA should bring his price down further, however the Rays average 3.95 runs per game.

He’ll probably improve his season numbers today.

Anibal Sanchez (DET) $5,600 VS White Sox

A 6.56 ERA is very off putting, however his low price reflects that and today he pitches in a big ballpark against a team who average 3.99 Runs per game.

So here’s one team I’ll be playing today

P Gerrit Cole (PIT) $9,000

A sub 3.00 ERA facing the worst team in baseball he should be a good probability bet.

P Anibal Sanchez (DET) $5,600

This is probably the highest risk, however fortune favours the bold, and we are talking about gambling right?

C Yasmani Grandal (LAD) $4,200

A switch hitting catcher, has had 2 HR’s in last 7 days.

1B Brandon Belt (SF) $3,900

I wanted a left handed Giant in the line-up and he was cheaper than Joe Panik.

2B Ben Zobrist (CHC) $3,800

Against a great pitcher, however I feel Zobrist at the price is as good a pick as any.

3B Eduardo Nunez (SF) $4,400

Nunez has earnt himself a trip to a contender, a .295 average with decent numbers He’s a good player to pick if Kris Bryant has a rest day.

SS Manny Machado (BAL) $4,400

He enters today with a .303 average in what I feel will be an offensive day for both teams.

OF Mookie Betts (BOS) $5,200

4 HR’s in last 10 games, Only 1 for 7 against scheduled starter but that’s a small sample size.

OF Max Kepler (MIN) $4,500

Baseball is all about streaks, 3 HR’s for the German last night, off of a very talented pitcher. Pick and hope he continues his form.

OF Mike Trout (LAA) $5,000

Perhaps the best player in baseball, Hitting .313 & could be on for a 30/30 year.

Here’s hoping you success in your teams tonight.
